So if my last entry about my eating-beef-to-heal-my-lost-voice story
wasn't strange enough for ya..
Maybe this one is lol...
This is all in preparation for
my new Shadow/Light choose-your-own adventure music experience launching soon!
But okay getting back to the crazy events
that healed my lost voice after FOUR months....
All my traditional doctor appointments
and prescriptions/steroids did NOTHING.
It was time to put matters into my own hands.
I researched all of my symptoms
and everything weirdly pointed to
something called the "vagus nerve."
🎵"VIVAAAAA LAS VEGAS!"
Nope, not THAT Vegas...
The vagus nerve I guess runs from your brain,
down past the vocal chords...
Past the heart...
And into the digestive system.
I tried all sorts of meditation music videos
to "activate the vagus nerve".
I tried some other weird practices I found on YouTube lol
Now all I get in my YouTube suggestions is vagus stuff...
And now all I want is a vacation to the other Vegas 😭
ANYWAY, every time I go to the mall
I can't help but notice this sweet, older Chinese gentleman...
He advertises on a big sign written in Chinese & English
in front of his mall shop
that he can heal different areas of the body
by rubbing certain points on the feet.
When I was in high school I met with a woman
that did this kind of work
and weirdly healed many of my allergic reactions
I thought maybe this guy could do the same?
You gotta understand,
by this point I was literally CRYING all the time
because my singing voice was gone.
Such an intricate part of who I am, is my singing voice.
Dare I even say a big piece of my self-identity?
GONE.
I was having to turn down months of work because of this
(In case you didn't know this...
I record songs for tv shows for a living).
I also couldn't sing in the shower,
car,
on the toilet...
ehem.
And my kids' nightly routine
of me singing them their songs I wrote for them
since they were babies
was totally disrupted.
They were almost as devastated as I was.
I had to fix this.
Anyway, I'd passed by this Chinese man’s shop many times.
I always felt self-conscious going in there
and having someone I don't know touching my feet.
Especially in this location
with people walking by watching me writhe in pain.
(This was no foot massage)
But like I said, I was desperate lol
I went up to the shop
and there was an immediate language barrier.
Another woman worked there too
(maybe his daughter?)
She tried to translate for me to the older man,
but her English was only slightly better than his.
He filled up a bucket with warm water
and told me to put my feet in there.
I tried to relax a little bit,
but that was hard.
After a good while soaking my feet..
He went to WORK on them haha.
Again, this wasn't a nice foot massage.
It HURTS getting the feet worked on in this way.
At first he asked,
"Hard?
Or Medium?"
It was hard to understand him so I asked him to repeat himself.
He demonstrated HARD on my feet,
and asked, "Hard?"
"Or medium?"
and he demonstrated working medium.
I responded, "Hard please!"
(Thinking maybe the harder he worked,
the more effective it would be?)
After about two mins
of the most excruciating foot pain in my life,
he looked up at me with a cute smile and said,
"Medium better?"
I said, "Yes please.
Do medium." lol...
I had told him I was concerned
with my voice/throat
and possibly the "vagus nerve".
I really don't think he understood a word I was saying.
But while he was working through my feet
he stopped on a particular spot.
It REALLY hurt there
more than the rest of my feet...
Even for his "medium mode" haha..
He then said...
"HEART...."
"Hurt?" I asked. "Yep! Definitely hurts haha!"
"No.. heaaart." He tried again.
I responded, "Hard"?
(I was confused thinking,
"Didn't I already tell him to go medium?")
He patiently repeated himself,
"Heart", and pointed to his chest.
"Ohhhhh..." I responded, "Heart?
There's something wrong with my heart?"
He repeated himself
pointing to his chest AGAIN and said,
"Heart... GEWWWWW!!!"
And then I kid you not
he made a face that if I could describe with an emoji,
it would be this one:
I'm not even over-exaggerating here.
"Heart... GEWWW! (insert emoji face)"
"What's going on with my heart?" I asked.
"Heart... GEWWW! (emoji face)"
The more I questioned to clarify what he was saying..
The more he repeated himself:
"Heart... GEWWW! (emoji)"
At least 3 or 4 times he made this face and statement consistently.
Well it hurt like crazy.
So whatever was going on with the heart in that spot,
he must have been fixing something lol!
45 mins later I tipped him well
hoping for some good karma to lean my way,
and went about my day.
I'd love to go back and see him again.
If anything I felt more relaxed afterwards.
So this was before my eating-beef-again/quitting-vegetarianism story
from my last entry.
So maybe it wasn't the eating beef again that healed it...
Maybe it was this wise Chinese man that actually healed my voice?
The vagus nerve does connect the throat and the heart,
so maybe?
It also connects the digestive system
which I mentioned in my last entry having issues with.
(hence the diet change)
Anyway, what do YOU think?
I gotta solve this mystery because I can NOT have this happen to me again.
Would love your thoughts.
I'll share another crazy detail in my next entry.
