It’s Thanksgiving morning! Woohoo!
Kids are off school for a few days
and my spouse Sarah is off work.
I wanted to hop on here first thing this morning
before everyone woke up
to post my gratitude.
But first I wanted to mention…
I tried writing this last night.
My spouse and kids went to a pie night
and I just wasn’t feeling it.
I locked myself away in my studio
to get some work done.
Once in a while I get in these moods where
I don’t want to be around people.
Maybe you can relate?
Anyway, I sat down with the intention to work.
Nothing was flowing.
It seemed like I wasn’t get anything done.
So what did I do?
I had the sudden urge to pull out my guitar
and just jam.
With no intention of hitting record.
No intention of writing anything new.
Soon I felt the pull over to the drums.
I did the same there.
Just played out my feelings.
Didn’t hit record.
Just hit the drums for a good while.
Before I knew it, my family was back home.
Anyway, what did I learn from all this?
I’ve been on such a locked-in schedule
that I forgot how important it is
just to let loose and have fun with music.
Don’t get me wrong.
Working on music every day IS fun.
But I’m realizing how important it is
just to be free with it.
Creativity doesn’t need a reason
it just needs space and time
given to it to breathe.
So with that I’m just gonna mention here
how thankful I am for music.
It’s always been here for me,
even before it was my career.
I remember sitting at the piano when I was a kid
when i felt lonely, I’d write stories on the piano.
I’d pretend that “bad guys” would
talk using the low keys
and angels would talk using the high ones lol.
To anyone else listening
it would have sounded like a jumbled mess.
But to me it was creativity flowing
without any intention to record it
without any intention to write anything.
Last night felt like re-discovering
that innocence, love, and
passion for music again.
The childlike awe and wonder in its beauty.
It doesn’t have to “sound like” anything special.
Just flow in the moment.
I’m thankful for that.
And last but definitely not least,
I’m thankful for YOU.
If you’re reading this it means at some point
the creativity that has flowed from me
spoke to you in some way or another.
I can’t believe I have this many people
interested in that as it is.
It’s not just me alone in my studio
but there are eyes and ears tuned into
what I’m creating in here.
That’s pretty special and I’m very thankful for it.
Thank you for being here,
and thank you for being YOU, Future. 🙏🏻
