In case you missed it…
“Stay Awake” is DONE
and can be heard on the
I’m writing this entry while
eating breakfast at McDonald’s.
Gotta love that McGgriddle 😋
Just dropped my 3 kids off
at school and we were
incredibly late this morning 🙃
So it’s been one of those days already.
For a McDonald’s though
this one is pretty nice!
It just opened up down the road
from our kids’ school so
it makes it a little TOO convenient
to stop here once in a while 😅
But I was just realizing that
I haven’t seen any new McDonald’s
with PlayPlaces anymore.
Did they stop making them?
That was the best part about
coming here as a kid!
Maybe it’s just been a thing since
the world shut down to
stop making them..
Anyway I digress lol
Had Sam over yesterday
in the studio.
We’ve been working on 2 songs
kind of at once lately
and interestingly enough
both songs have similar meanings.
“Shadow / Light”
and the title track of the album
“Beautiful, Terrible”
That song used to be called
“When the devil calls” haha
Might still call it that but we’ll see.
Usually final song names
don’t finalize until the end.
“Beautiful, Terrible” though
was partly inspired by
when I was a kid and I used to
get the WORST night terrors,
to the point I’d sleepwalk
and freak my parents OUT 😬
One time I was in a
night terror episode,
and I unconsciously grabbed
a life size cardboard cutout
of Darth Vader I had
and held it over my dad
while his back was turned
sitting at his desk
working late in his home office.
When he turned around
he let out a YELP startling enough
to snap me out of it
and wake me up 🤣
Eventually when I grew to be
a young teen
I didn’t necessarily grow out of
the night terrors,
I just learned how to become
lucid enough in my dreams
to wake myself up when I
recognized them coming on...
aka, I ran from them.
That’s continued into
adulthood for me until
recently within the last few years
I stopped waking
myself up from them
and purposefully tried staying IN
them with intentions to embrace
whatever darkness was
rolling around in my ‘ol noggin
and offer it
light, love, and acceptance.
Incredibly I’ve found that it has
helped. Anyway, in a nutshell
this is what our upcoming album
“Beautiful, Terrible” is all about:
Embracing the terrible in life
to discover and better recognize
the beautiful. 🖤
