The intro song titled “Shadow/Light”
on the new album is now
completely sketched out! When
I say sketched out I mean to
say, there are audible
parts recorded and in place
to give an overall idea of
what the song will do from
start to finish. None of the
actual parts are recorded
exactly how they will be in
the final, they’re just a rough
draft of everything. Before this
week we only had the first half
sketched out and available for
everyone to listen. But now you can
hear the full sketch on the
The first half is angsty with
darker lyrics, but to drive home
the contrasting “shadow” vs “light”
idea, can you guess what we’re
aiming the second half to sound
like? You probably guessed it, we
want it to be of a happier/more
inspirational mood. :) Overall we
want this second half to almost
sound like a different song and
then the ending returns to the
angsty intro. Like a cycle… Or…
MIND CYCLE ???? haha
These concepts are
kind of explored in the
Shadow vs Light experience
and the whole idea behind
the concept of our “Mind Cycles” EP
is such that really in life we
all kind of go through these
Shadow/Light cycles. They say the
goal is to not get stuck in
the shadow, but to
embrace it, process it, learn
from it so we can return back
to the light and experience
& appreciate its contrasting
beauty… BUT something I
realized today through an
inspirational Instagram
Reel (lol, no but really) is
that “what comes up, must
come down right?” haha…
in other words, at least in
this mortal existence it’s
impossible to stay in the higher
vibrational / light space forever,
the cycle continues back to
the lower vibrations and
shadows consistently. Such is the
joy of this life I guess!
On another note,
I wanted to mention that a
colleague of mine is currently
working on the guitar parts for
this song and will be singing the
backup vocals which are being
written in a call/response
style or fashion. For example, I
sing one line, he responds singing
with another line, and each line
slightly overlaps each other.
Anyway, I’m really excited because
what he has come up for it on
guitar is REALLY cool
so far (currently not heard
on the songs-in-progress page
yet, but it will be soon so stay
tuned!) This colleague of mine
runs a tv music company out of
Los Angeles that I’ve done freelance
work for off and on over the last
decade. He also used to play in a
successful touring band called
“Signal To Noise” so he definitely
brings a TON of experience to the
table, and I feel so lucky and
honored he agreed to help us on
this! Anyway, that’s all I have for
this week! Can’t WAIT for this one!
(Btw… I know I say that about every
one of our new songs
BUT IT’S TRUE lol)
