After being sick for most of May

and the first bit of June, I was

FINALLY able to start recording

vocals again! This week I recorded

the lead vocal parts on

Shadow/Light and nailed down

what I wanted everybody else to

sing! On this song there is sort of a

call and response feel on the verses

so I’ll be singing the initial call

while James will be singing the

response. Then on the choruses...

usually I sing my own harmonies

and doubles but this week after

hearing mine and James vocals

together for the first time I wanted

to give it a try for the choruses so

I’m having James record all of the

choruses too with me. Since this

song is supposed to first represent

Shadow for the first half and Light

for the second half, I decided to use

Sam’s sweet buttery rich deep

vocals on the bridge (there simply

aren’t enough adjectives in the

English language to describe his

singing voice). By the bridge the

overall tone of the song changes

from Shadow to Light or at least to

a plea for Light. Sam’s voice does

this beautifully on this part. Then

mine and James voices will be heard

in the distance. Last but not least

SARAH will have a time to shine as

her voice comes in on its own solo

part until the final round of the

ending all four of our voices come

together for a big epic kaboom

finish hehe. This is seriously

probably my most favorite song I’ve

ever written, no joke. It perfect

encapsulates introducing the entire

meaning of the Beautiful, Terrible

album which is why I decided to

have it be the first song.

As I wait for James to send back his

vocals, today I hope to record more

vocals on one of the next songs...

likely “When the devil Calls”... then

tomorrow Sam and I have ONE

MORE SONG to sketch the drum

part out on which is part II of the

Beautiful, Terrible Trilogy (or last

three songs on the album). We’re

only two months away from my

birthday and my goal has been to

get the digital version finished and

out to everyone by then but we’ll

definitely be cutting it close!
