Wow first time writing the new year date! As much as I love the Christmas season there’s something about the new year season as it then approaches Spring I’ve come to love even more as an adult. Probably because as a dad Christmas has become the biggest stress of the year figuring out presents for three kids and figuring out how to pay for them all etc. It’s nice to have a fresh start to a new year, not to mention when the weather starts to warm up again in a month and a half from now (at least in Arizona haha). There’s something super appealing to me right now too with the thought of the new year as a fresh start and the upcoming Spring promising new life. I’m very excited.

All this said, today we had our official first vocal acoustic run through of the first song we’re re-doing from our 2009 “Doubt to Belief” album. I say “our” 2009 album but it’s funny because I didn’t even know Sarah back then haha hence why we’re re-recording it. Even though this was our first official run through, we’ve been talking about how we want to approach this re-recording for the entire month of December. Feels great to officially be working on it now though in the new year. You can privately stream that full session on YouTube HERE.

Next week the hope is to lay down the drums so I can start laying down bass guitar and electric guitars. Then finally we will record the vocals which will likely be tweaked here and there still up until the very day of our vocal recording sessions. SO EXCITED!

I’ve wanted to revisit this album now for over a decade and to get to do it now with my best friend, partner, and beautiful spouse is simply a dream come true! Hope you enjoy our banter back and forth in that 20 minute video and our fumbling around figuring out which notes to sing hahaha. You’ll notice halfway through, our approach to which melody/harmony to sing between the two of us shifts although now as I’m typing this I’ll mention here that after we filmed this, Sarah and I discussed the possibility of singing it one way for the first chorus then having her sing the higher version of the chorus starting on the second chorus. This is the stuff we’ll for sure nail down though in our vocal recording session. We’ve got enough of an idea of it now though that we can go ahead and start recording instrumentals. Stay tuuuuuuned!
