Christmas is coming and Sarah and I made a goal to get all our shopping and wrapping done this weekend so we can enjoy and relax for the rest of the season leading up to the big holiday. So we were out shopping last night getting our final gifts and the rest of today we’ll be wrapping everything. I years past we would wait until Christmas Eve to wrap everything and that always made for a miserable day on Christmas cuz we were so sleep deprived from the night before. Anyway, here’s to reaching that goal for this year!

The only thing that has made that difficult this weekend is starting to feel like I’m coming down with a cold or something. We went to a Christmas carnival that Sarah’s work was throwing the the night before last so we were out late in the cold and the next day I woke up feeling like my body was fighting something off. So that’s always fun but I’m still pushing through it.

As far as progress on our next release is concerned… this week with all the shopping and going out together we’ve really try to hone in on the lyrics together for “Agree”. You can look at the current lyrics for them here. It’s been interesting trying to rework lyrics about an old relationship and change them to fit what we’ve currently experienced in our relationship now. Finding new words to rhyme with and finding new stories to tell. This song was originally written 15 years ago. I was a lot less experienced in the realm of relationships and a lot more immature back then so it’s interesting coming at this song now with 13 years of marriage experience in the back pocket. I recognize there are still lots of areas in which I’m still immature in my relationship abilities though so it’s all about growth there. Trying to see this growth and room for improvement has all been on the top of my mind as we’ve been reworking these lyrics.

Along with the lyrics Sarah and I have both been rehearsing what parts each of us are going to sing. Sarah is taking most of the lead vocals on this one, but what’s unique about this song is that it has a true back-and-forth singing-wise. On the original I sang both vocal parts back and forth on the record but live I had to have one of my bandmates sing the other part. It definitely makes sense to have two different vocals sing the back and forth on the record too, and making one of those vocals Sarah’s only adds to the story of our relationship as we sing about it back and forth.

Anyway I’m really excited about it. Soon we hope to post an acoustic sing-through of the full song once we have the lyrics in a place that are almost complete. I usually find that more lyric tweaks occur though as we get to this acoustic sing-thru stage and we start to hear what’s working lyrically and what isn’t.
