VIDEO CONTENT:
In this video I take you through all of the individual production parts that happen throughout the song “Wildfire, Our Love”… from the electronic beats, to stomps, to all of the intertwining vocal lines heard at the end of the full song version. Hope you enjoy!
For this next video, I’d love to say that I personally know a couple of fire dancers and hiked up some beautiful mountains to film this with them, but on an indie budget the best I could do was find some purchasable footage online of some firedancers and hire someone on Fivver to animate the lyrics 😅
Even so, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s a little hard to tell but there are actually two different fire dancers in this video that go back and forth. The second dancer is a dude with long hair and a flowing long skirt of sorts which is why most people think it’s the same girl the whole time. I envisioned having two different dancers though in this way in order to tell the story of the love between two partners in a relationship.
The ending has my old moniker “Wait for the Moment” printed on the album cover which is the name I went by when this video was originally released, before changing to “Fenwick & the Futures”.
I’ll post the full lyrics below the video too. Enjoy!
LYRICS
I was down and out for the count
Gonna hide it all back under
Never look back out.
But then
You were center stage in the moment
Living a light that I’ve been waiting for a lifetime
This was our time
Wildfire, light it brighter
Wildfire, fight it higher
It can make it hurt
It can make you bleed
Bring it to a burn but never gonna leave
This is how our love is gonna fight it higher, wildfire
Our love is a wildfire
Well she can run, and he can hide
But never find out if all their mess is ever worth this ride
So we light it up, feel the flame
Shut our eyes and embrace the pain
‘Cause it only makes us stronger
Wildfire, light it brighter
Wildfire, fight it higher
It can make it hurt
It can make you bleed
Bring it to a burn but never gonna leave
This is how our love is gonna fight it higher, wildfire
So light it up, feel the flame
Shut our eyes and embrace the pain
As we fight it higher, wildfire
Wildfire, light it brighter
Wildfire, fight it higher
Our love is a wildfire.
SONG LORE
Writing Process
It’s so fascinating to me whenever I put an album together, there’s always one straggler song floating around in the old noggin’ that decides to be a late bloomer and not find it’s way out until the tail end of the album recording process. Usually this last song written is the catchiest one on the album too haha. This has actually happened on every album release I’ve recorded to date!
“Visionaries” was only supposed to be a 10 track album, but one day I was picking my son up from school when the chorus melody came to me. I had been going back and forth all morning between the three chorus chords: Gmaj, Cmaj, Dmaj. Then while sitting in the school pickup lane, the words and melody arrived simultaneously: “Wildfire, light it brighter. Wildfire, fight it higher!” Love it when that happens. :)
Song Meaning
I always hesitate to share a song’s meaning because it’s usually specific to me, but I truly feel these songs are meant for each listener to interpret and find their own meaning. I’d hate for my meaning to get in the way from a listener finding their own. Also, over time I usually find different meanings come out of my songs for me so it’s always changing.
That said, when I first wrote this song… for me it was about when I first met my wife Sarah. At that time I was literally at my darkest point in life, and she was the light for me (still is) that invited me to step out of shadow.
For me the song is also about how no relationships are perfect either. A strong relationship takes work and can be a "trial by fire". Beautiful jewels and the strongest of metals are forged by intense heat/fire. In my mind, relationships can become stronger in the same way, through the heat of facing trials together head on.
