No Longer Dreamers

In this video I show a montage of all the different instruments that went into creating the latter half of this song “No Longer Dreamers”. My favorite part of this song (and quite possibly my entire “Visionaries” album) is this epic ending.

LYRICS

So long, deceivers

We’re on the mend

But hang on, believers

Hold out to the end

And tell all the others

We’re no longer dreamers

Feel this road

Beneath it passes on

It closes distance

To bring the evening

Rays of sun

Pierce through my eyes

To call me back to reality

‘Cause I fought to finally see

Everything that you need me

To be for you is here now

So hold on to me

Just like a dream

We never want an ending

Forget everything

So temporary

And stay a while

Stay a while with me

‘Cause we’re no longer dreaming

Only seeking visionary things

As visionaries bring

Hold on to me

We never want an ending

Just like a dream

Stay a while with me

‘Cause we’re no longer dreaming

Here we are, not alone

Maybe the tears in our eyes

Can dry now

Writing Process

When I wrote this song, it was originally supposed to be the finale to my album “Visionaries”, especially with the epic ending and lyric line “only seeking visionary things as visionaries bring”. But then I wrote an acoustic song actually called “Visionaries” that I felt flowed really well after “No Longer Dreamers” and served as a good resolving ending for the album.

The album as a whole really is a concept/story album that deserves a full listen-through in one sitting when you have the time (you can download the full digital deluxe edition if you want, HERE), especially since this song “No Longer Dreamers” is actually a “reprise” of track 1 on the album called “Pierce”. The whole concept of the album represents going on a mental journey, a break away from reality, discovering new realizations about life, relationships etc., and then returning home after “No Longer Dreamers”.

Song Meaning

I always hesitate to share a song’s meaning because it’s usually specific to me, but I truly feel these songs are meant for each listener to interpret and find their own meaning. I’d hate for my meaning to get in the way from a listener finding their own. Also, over time I usually find different meanings come out of my songs for me so it’s always changing.

This song begins with hearing children playing outside at a park or neighborhood street. I wanted something that invoked “coming home” as I mentioned above. Only for me, “coming home”, I envisioned coming home to my old original childhood home and street where I grew up. Coming home to myself as a child growing up on that cul-de-sac, not having a care in the world other than just enjoying childhood.

The beginning of the song “Pierce” begins with the sound of a car starting up and getting in the front seat to drive away. On “No Longer Dreamers” I used that same soundbite but reversed the audio form of it which to me also signifies coming home, or reversing the act of leaving at all in the first place.

Overall the message in this song is growth. When going on a mental/spiritual journey, it is always so inspiring to look back at the feats accomplished along the way. To say, that I’m no longer “there” anymore, but “here” now in life, it is quite rewarding. I’m no longer dreaming about the life I could have, instead I’ve gone on the necessary journey to now make that dream a reality… a fitting concept as this Shadow / Light Path journey is soon coming to a close.
