The last two weeks have been VERY intense in the studio between finishing the two most recent songs on our “Beautiful, Terrible” album!
If you’ve preordered and haven’t downloaded the finished 9 songs yet then check your Future Sphere emails for the link or the Future Sphere Discord.
There are only 3 songs left to finish! Really though I think of these 3 songs as one long 10 minute-ish song as it is a three-parter.
This week I also finally put this concept to paper (digitally) that has been floating around in my head a while for the new album cover.
This is just a concept that I will be sending to my graphic design person to clean it up and make it our own:
I wanted something simple but slick. There are a couple elements to this that are written about in a couple of the songs on the album. Specifically the contrast between shadow and light as well as finding the key to the lock.
The back of the album will likely have the same black/white pattern but with a lock in the middle which goes to the key seen in the front.
As far as the hawk is concerned, some of you may have noticed this is a similar hawk that is tattooed on the back of my right arm which is visible while I’m holding a microphone when singing. The hawk has a deep personal connection for me so having it represented on this album cover is symbolizing how deeply personal this album is as well for me.
As far as the work done this last week on the recently completed and available song downloads, I FINALLY got my sister’s friend Rose in the studio (I talked about her in an older post here.) She sings on the 2nd verse and bridge of the song called “The Reckoning”.
Like me, she too had lost her voice for a long time (that’s a whole other saga I discussed around this time last year if you want to check out older entries of how I lost my voice for 4 months last year). Anyway, it was SO great getting Rose back in the studio and SO great to hear her voice back after so long too. She has such a unique raw quality to her voice that works so well on a lot of my songs.
As far as the song “Shadow/Light” I FINALLY got to record Sarah in the studio on that one. Her and I are usually like two passing ships at sea between work for both of us and her classes for her masters degree. She NAILED the ending on the song and it adds SO much power to the song overall. My colleague James from LA also did some work on the drum mixing on this song. His voice is the one heard responding back and forth to my singing on the verses, and then he doubles my voice on the choruses.
I think these two songs just very well may be my two favorite songs on this album so I’m SO thrilled they are finally available to download for all the preorder folks and full-perks Future Spherians.
We are now only one month away from our completion goal and on a good track to getting there! Stay tuuuuuuuuned!
